A Helping Hand for Students
The Kadlec Foundation awarded $41,000 in scholarships to 21 area students pursuing
clinical healthcare undergraduate degrees in the 2012-2013 school year.
Columbia Basin College andWSU Tri-Cities now administer Foundation scholarships and
students apply through those institutions. Financial aid experts review the applications
and check to see that students are making appropriate academic progress.
Kadlec and the Foundation continue to grow their relationship with the WSU Tri-Cities
Nursing Program. Kadlec purchased a 95,000-square-foot building on Lee Boulevard that will
house the Nursing Program after a major remodel. WSU is raising around $1 million to
fund a portion of the estimated $10 million to $12 million total needed and Kadlec will
lease the University 10,000 square feet of space for one dollar a year. When completed,
the building will also house an indoor mall with multiple outpatient services, including
the Diabetes Learning Center and Kadlec Neurological Resource Center. Architects are
preparing the final design and Kadlec plans to break ground in 2013.
“The Kadlec Foundation’s
activities give me the
opportunity to ‘give back’
as a grateful patient. I am
proud to work with my fellow
Board members. They are a
wonderful mix of community-
minded volunteers, striving to
develop a culture of philan-
thropy in order to meet the
challenges of our purpose
statement. We want to
make a difference!”
